History: Commenced to function on 21-6-43 as the Test Pilots School within the A&AEE at Boscombe Down. On 15-1-44 was authorised to form the Test Pilots School as a separate unit, becoming the Empire Test Pilots School on 28-7-44. It moved to Cranfield in October 1945 to be followed by another move to Farnborough on 12-7-47 attached to the RAE. On 29-1-68 it returned to Boscombe Down attached to A&AEE where it remains current.
Commissioned by Patrick McAlevey and dedicated to all the Pilots who championed the science of flight and to those who supported them.
