History: Formed in May 1918 from 492, 517 & 518 Flights at Prawle Point, disbanding on 22 February 1919. Re-formed at Stradishall on 30 October 1939 and was re-numbered No 42 Squadron at Thorney Island on 6 May 1946. It re-formed once more at Melton Mowbray on 1 December 1959, finally disbanding there on 23 August 1963.
