Link: The octopus is a very active creature, even reputed to jump into the air and to cover considerable distances quickly. This activity, its marine habitat and its many arms all allude to the unit’s history and attributes.

History: Formed as No 6 Sqn RNAS December 1916 renumbered 1 April 1918 St Marie Cappel and remains current. NB. Finally disbanded at Kinloss on 1 April 2005 after the artwork was completed.
