Link: The single star used in this unit’s badge is used to symbolise navigation, and as a background for the constellation of Orion. Orion- sometimes described as the ‘great hunter’ is chosen to suggest the part to be played by the pupils of the school in finding their way to the enemy.

History: Formed as School of Air Navigation from Air Navigation School, Andover and Navigation School, Calshot at Manston on 6 January 1936. Moved to St. Athan on 2 September 1939 and became No 1 School of Air Navigation in June 1940. Moved to Canada on 12 October 1940 where it was re-designated No 31 Air Navigation School on 11 November 1940.
